Justin Charles Junk, 34, of Independence, IA, died Tuesday evening, October 10, 2017 with his wife at his side.
Justin was born on December 10, 1982 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Joseph M. and Jill E. (Immerzeel) Junk. He attended the St. John’s Catholic Elementary School and graduated from the Independence High School with the class of 2001. He continued his education at Kirkwood Community College receiving a degree in Fire Science then transferring to Iowa State University in Ames, IA, and received a degree in Ag Studies. While at Iowa State he was a member of the Iowa State Livestock Judging Team. After graduating he moved to southern Iowa where he met his wife, Sarah. On July 26, 2008 he married Sarah J. Landis in Stuart, IA. The couple moved to the Independence area and farmed with his family, and became employed with the Waterloo Fire Department. While working as a firefighter Justin attended Hawkeye Community College and received his Paramedic Certification.
Justin enjoyed raising and showing cattle and sheep. He always made a point to show his kids the farming lifestyle. He never missed an Iowa State Fair or a bag of tom-thumb donuts. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. Most memories were made spending time with his four children and wife Sarah.
He is survived by his wife Sarah, four children; Lane, Wyatt, Ty and Maybry all at home, His father Joseph Junk, Independence, his brother and sister; Jason (Lisa) Junk, Independence, IA, and Jessica (Craig) Moffitt, Colfax, IA. His grandparents; Bob & Pat Junk, Independence, IA, and Chuck and Cheryl Immerzeel, Janesville, IA, and Aunts, Uncles and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jill Junk on December 26, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. David Beckman, officiating, assisted by Rev. Mr. Tim Post. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM Sunday at the church where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM. The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
