Mary Reidy Knipp, 94, of Marshalltown and formerly of Independence and Manchester, Iowa died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Mary was born on February 15, 1923 in Monti, Iowa the daughter of John and Annie (Reilly) Monaghan. She was a 1941 graduate of the Winthrop High School, Winthrop, Iowa. She married John C. Reidy on October 6, 1945 in Monti, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1956. On October 6, 1972, she married George Knipp in Manchester, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2003.

She worked at Micro Switch, Security State Bank and Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence, Iowa. She owned and operated the Craft & Hobby Shop in Manchester, Iowa until her retirement. Mary volunteered for the Red Cross in Manchester and Independence; mentored at St. John’s Catholic School in Independence until she moved to Marshalltown in 2015.

Mary is survived by her son; Donnie (Kris) Reidy, Independence, IA., Daughters; Connie (Roger) Kremer, Ankeny, IA, Jane (Craig) Jennings, Marshalltown, IA, Susan Schoeberl, Waterloo, IA. Step-daughters; Kathy Knipp Donelson, Marion, IA, Kris Knipp Meyer, Cedar Rapids, IA, Karol (Terry) Knipp Johnson, Manchester, IA, Kim (Al) Knipp Cole, Manchester, IA, Karla (Rob) Knipp Beadle, Marion, IA. Thirty one grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, and best friend Loretta Reidy, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; John Reidy and George Knipp, a son; Martin (Marty) Reidy, a step-daughter; Karen Knipp Gilbert, a son-in-law, Rick Schoeberl, two brothers; Vincent and Louis Monaghan, and a sister; Evelyn Moseley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, Iowa with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monti, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday and from 9 to 10 Am Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA. A rosary will be recited at 4 PM and a wake service will be held at 7 PM Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to St. John’s Catholic School, 314 3rd St. NE, Independence, Iowa for tuition, or to a Cancer Fund or Hospice of choice.
