Lester J. McGlaughlin, 74, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday evening, June 27, 2017 at the Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa.

Lester was born on December 14, 1943 in Cheyenne, WY, the son of Lester E. and Ruby E. (Fox) McGlaughlin. He moved with his family to the Littleton, Iowa area. He was a 1961 graduate of the Jesup High School, Jesup, Iowa. On July 12, 1985, he married Darlene E. Wiley in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Independence, Iowa. Lester was employed with John Deere Company in Waterloo for 30 years prior to his retirement.

He is survived by three daughters; Deb (Loren) Ellis, and Vera (Dean) Cummings of Independence, IA., and Char (Mark) Birchard, Urbana, IA. Seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three brothers; Errol, Arvada, CO., Don, Tipton, IA., Michael, Anchorage, Al, and two sisters; Sheri Kriesel-Farlow, South Bend, IN., and Lori Kriesel.

Lester was preceded by his parents; Lester E. McGlaughlin and Ruby E. McGlaughlin-Kriesel, his wife Darlene in 2005, and a brother; Wayne McGlaughlin.

Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Friday in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with Rev. Robert Solon officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 1 PM to Services Friday at the funeral home.
