Dawn E. Rouse, 50, of Independence, IA died Monday, July 17, 2017, at her home in rural Independence, IA, following a long illness.

Dawn was born on March 3, 1967, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Darwin D. and Mary J. (Sherren) Johnson. She was a graduate of Independence High School, Independence, IA, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA. After college she worked for Hazelton Farm Service in Hazelton, IA for several years, before joining her parents business, Johnson Appliance, Independence, IA in 1994. In 2004 she began working for Cy & Charley’s Inc., Independence as their Appliance Salesperson. On September 10, 2005 Dawn married the love of her life, Tony Russell Rouse at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, IA, and they made their home in rural Independence.

She loved the outdoors, and went for a long walk everyday despite the weather conditions. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, bowling, and riding and caring for horses.

She is survived by her husband of twelve years Tony Rouse, Independence, IA. Her parents Darwin and Mary Johnson, Independence, IA, a brother Mark Johnson, Chicago, IL, her father and mother-in-law Russell and Marilyn (Schnepf) Rouse, Independence, IA, a sister-in-law Teresa Higdon, Rowley, IA, a brother-in-law Thomas Rouse, Independence, IA, three uncles Rick Johnson, Independence, IA, and Glen Johnson, Lacrosse, WI, Burdette Johnson, Shellrock, IA, an aunt, and Anne Sherren, Lombard, IL, and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Independence, IA, with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, and from 9 AM till services Friday at the church in Independence, IA.

The Family of Dawn would like for everyone to come in casual attire.
