Alice Foster, 96, of Masonville went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Alice was born April 6, 1921 in Kelsey, Iowa the daughter of John J. and Anna Folkerts Johnson. Her parents died when she was young and she went to live with her aunt and uncle: Martin and Anna Folkerts. Alice graduated from Allison High School in 1939. She then attended Wartburg College, Iowa State Teaching College (UNI) and received her degree from Upper Iowa College. Alice taught school for six years in rural Butler County. She then taught elementary school at Lamont and Starmont Schools for 36 years.

Alice lived with her sister Ann and husband Claud Foster on a farm close to Lamont and then later on a farm near Masonville. Ann died in 1974.

Alice was united in marriage to Claud Foster on June 19, 1976 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. Claud died in 1982.

She most recently resided at the Meadows Assisted Living in Manchester, Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence and Marietta’s Place of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Alice was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Lamont and United Methodist Women, a long time member of the Lamont Garden Club, and was one of the founders and volunteers of the Common Grounds Coffee House in Lamont. She was an avid Gardener, loved cats, and was a world traveler. She loved her family dearly and was especially delighted by children.

She is survived by her three stepchildren: Ron (Sheri) Foster of Masonville; Gary (Tanya) Foster of Manchester; and Judy (Dave) Lamka of Marion; seven step grandchildren: Chris, Stephanie, Meghann, Torrey, Ryne, Jeff, and Nick; thirteen step great grandchildren; and one brother John Johnson of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Engelena (Ann) Foster, her husband Claud, and step grandson Aaron Foster.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont with Rev. Allen Craft officiating. Music provided by Karen Kremer. Casketbearers will be her step grandchildren. Interment in Fairview Cemetery at Winthrop.

Visitation from 5 PM until 8 PM Wednesday, May 10 and until services Thursday all at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation services of Lamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
