Gertrude L. Wunder, 98, of rural Aurora, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, June 24, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church, Oelwein with Rev. Michael Holmen officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Interment: Union Cemetery, Putnam Township, rural Aurora, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established for Peace Lutheran Church and the Union Cemetery.

Gertrude Levon Stock was given life by her Creator and was born on November 29, 1918 in Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of August & Wilma (Pfaltzgraff) Stock. On June 29, 1919, she received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. Gertrude received her education from the Dumont Schools, graduating from Dumont High School in the class of 1936. In 1940, Gertrude publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed and received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. On December 31, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa, she received the gift of a beloved companion in her spouse, Alwin William Wunder. They were blessed with the gift of three children: Gary, Darryl & Bryan. God blessed Gertrude’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, working at Waterloo Corrugated Box, as a cook at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, as an aid at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, at her church and in her community. Gertrude lived on the farm at rural Aurora and for the past three years at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Gertrude was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught vacation bible school.

Gertrude is survived by her 3 Sons: Gary (Terri) Wunder of Quasqueton, Darryl (Becky) Wunder of Aurora & Bryan (Susie) Wunder of Aurora;

10 Grandchildren: Mark Wunder, Tina (Nathan) Egli, Shane Wunder, Sheila Wunder (Tim Rampenthal), Riley Wunder (Carla Burton) , Derek (Amy) Wunder, Jennifer (Gregory) Williams, Joe (Brooke) Bell, Dustin (Stephanie) Wunder & Danette (Jeff) Murphy;

23 Great Grandchildren;

3 Great Great Grandchildren;

Sister: Franzette Chandler of Huntington Beach, California;

Brother-In-Law: Richard Barrett of Middletown, New Jersey and

Nieces & Nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Alwin on November 21, 1996, brother: Loren Stock and 2 sisters: Flavia Wessels & Berniece Barrett.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister, Gertrude Wunder.
