Robert D. Damon, 87, of Oelwein, Iowa died Tuesday morning, January 10, 2017 at Unity Point – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Private family graveside services will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family.

Robert D. Damon was born May 16, 1929 at Hazleton, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Fern (Woodward) Damon. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Phyllis Tatro in Oelwein. Robert was employed with the Great Western and Chicago North Western Railroad until his retirement in 1977. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Robert is survived by his wife: Genevieve Damon of Oelwein; daughter: Nancy (James) Egan of Oelwein; 2 step-sons: Dennis (Annie) Welsh of Independence and Donald Welsh of Oelwein; several grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 3 brothers: Paul (Betty) Damon of Oelwein, Fred (Joyce) Damon of Tama and Aaron (Denise) Damon of Pekin, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son: Daniel Welsh; 3 brothers: George Damon, John Damon and Ralph Damon; and 4 sisters: Irene Selby, Marilynn Gillingham, Delores Wood and Midge Schmidt.
