Independence – Helen V. Broshar, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on July 10, 1929, in Milan, Missouri, the daughter of Cash and Crystal (Roberts) Eaton. She graduated from high school in Milan. On March 27, 1948, she and Merrill Leroy Broshar were married in Green City, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1963. She and her family moved to Independence in 1951. Mrs. Broshar was a routing clerk for Walnut Grove in Independence before she retired in 1991. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence where she was part of quilter’s group, the Buchanan County Tourism Bureau where she volunteered at the Depot, and the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary where she volunteered at the gift ship. She was also a member of Topps, and formerly a member of the Rebeccas, and the Merry Mixers.

Mrs. Broshar is survived by her daughters, Beth Mango of Plano, Texas, and Elaine (Luis) Echeverria of Oyster Bay, New York, her sons, Randy (Chris) Broshar of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Joe Broshar of Independence, and her 5 grandchildren, Ben Broshar, Dan Broshar, Allie Echeverria, Christina Echeverria, and Jamie Mango.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence in charge of arrangements.
