Jesup – Mathilda “Tillie” Phillips, 98 years old of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo. She was born May, 7, 1918, in Orleans, NE, the daughter of Charles P. Kass and Mary Ann (Thoma) Kass. On January 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Joseph Henry Phillips in Raymond, IA. She was a homemaker, had worked for a short time for Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo and was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

Tillie is survived by three sons, William Phillips of Manchester, IA, Robert (Patricia) Phillips of Kyle, TX, Charles “Chuck” (Mary) Phillips of Waterloo, IA; two daughters, Norma Frost of South Bend, IN, JoAnn Voyek of Waverly, IA; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren and one brother, Arthur Kass of Dunkerton, IA. Her parents; husband, Joseph (1999); three brothers, Alfred Kass, Raymond Kass, Arnold Kass; five sisters, Rosa Ambrosy Barth, Armella Sadler, Marcella Ambrosy, Magdeline Kohler, and her twin sister Philomena Phillips preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 pm Tuesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Parish Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius School, Jesup and to the Bosco System in Gilbertville.
