Anna May Minnie Slater, 83, of Lamont, Iowa passed away on December 24th 2016 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa after a long battle with complications of Dementia. Survivors include six children: Roberta Barrer, Bettendorf, IA; Leo (Jeni) Slater, Lamont, IA; Harold Slater, Little Rock, AR; Paul (Cathi) Slater, Cedar Rapids, IA; John (Gina) Slater, Westlake, OH; CMsgt Nick Slater (USAF Ret), Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 17 Grandchildren, and 16 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Grace Craig of Biloxi, MS, and Viola Kofron of Janesville, IA, and a brother, Russell Steege of Montana.

Anna May was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years Robert W. Slater, daughters, Mary and Theresa (Allen) Franzen and son-in-Law Michael Barrer.

Anna May was born on May 19, 1933 near Hawkeye, IA to Emil and Leona (Fritz) Steege. On August 12th 1952, Anna May married Robert Slater at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Lamont, Iowa. They then spent the next 20 years raising kids and serving at Air Force bases across the United States, Hawaii, and Spain. In 1972, the family moved back to Lamont, IA, where Anna May was known in the community for her catering, baking, and crafts and loved working in her garden and spending time with the grandkids. After retirement, Robert and Anna May then spent several winters in Florida, traveled throughout the United States and Europe, and spent over 20 Summers at River of Lakes Campground in Bagley, WI. Anna May will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family wants to thank the staff of the Good Neighbor Home and Above and Beyond Hospice for their loving care.

Visitation will be at 9:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, IA on Thursday, December 29th. A funeral mass at 10:30 will follow the visitation. A luncheon will follow the mass.
