Mrs. Magdalene Gapinski, 76, of 414 Sixth street SW, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 8 p.m. Monday after a lingering illness. Born at Posen, Germany, June 22, 1868, to Mr. and Mrs. John Witt, she later came to Independence, where she made her home until a year ago.
Her husband, John, died in 1926. A daughter, Mary, died in infancy, and another daughter, Clara, in 1943.
Surviving are two sons, Jess of Rowley and Frank of Winthrop; two daughters, Mrs. Russell Smith of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Ralph LaTour of Cedar Rapids, and eight grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Patrick's church, where services will be held at a time to be announced later.
The body will be taken to Wednesday from the Teahen chapel to the residence of Mrs. LaTour, 414 Six street SW, where friends may call.
