Ralph J. Slater of Hazleton Dies. Ralph John Slater, son of Nicholas J. and Charlotte V. Slater was born Sept. 11, 1893 and died suddenly Nov. 1. At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to Buchanan County, Iowa, where he lived the remainder of his life. He married Ertie Jarrett in 1917. They had three children, Herschel, Leslie and Darlene. His son, Leslie, was lost in World War II. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by three brothers, Theodore, Leo and Nicholas; three sisters, Charlotte Hatch, Rozella O'Donnell, and Cecelia Pocherily; four grandchildren; and several, nephews and nieces. Mr. Slater was a longtime partner of Walter Jarrett in the meat business in Hazleton. He was an active participant in local and county civic affairs throughout his life and was prominent in the Hazleton Presbyterian church
community, school and athletic organizations for over 40 years. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon, Nov. 4, with the Rev. P. G Koopman officiating. Burial was in the Hazleton cemetery.
