Independence – Georgia B. Sherrets, 85 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at her home. She was born on February 22, 1931, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Alva Carl and Bernice Alta (Arnold) McCalley. She attended high school in Independence. On September 4, 1955, she and Donald Glen Sherrets were married in Independence. They farmed west of Independence until retiring. Mrs. Sherrets also was a clerk at Pamida in Independence and tied flies for the Wapsi Fly Co. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence. She enjoyed wintering in Texas. In her free time, she liked to knit and crochet. Afghans, dolls, and doll clothes were a specialty.

Mrs. Sherrets is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald, 4 daughters, Chris Hocken of Walker, Iowa, Judy (Charlie) Baier of Cresco, Iowa, Donna Hahn of Sioux City, Iowa, and Becky (Billy) Steele of Elk City, Oklahoma, 1 son, Tom (Christie) Sherrets of Las Vegas, Nevada, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandchildren, 1 sister, Connie Wilson, and 2 brothers, Chid McCalley and Junior McCalley.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Independence with Rev. Mike Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
