Dubuque Herald –Jan. 7, 1876

Mr. C. A. Harrington, a leading merchant of Jesup, was found dead in his store last Sunday morning. Saturday evening preceding the discovery of the body was dark and gloomy; a heavy rain had been falling nearly the whole day. He had not returned to his home that evening, and in the morning, his family became somewhat alarmed, his daughter Emma, a young lady about 15 years of age, went in search of her father. She found the store door unlocked and entered, passed to the rear of the room and saw the prostrate form of her father.

The coroner’s jury brought in a verdict that the deceased came to his death by heart disease. His family and most intimidate friends knew that he had been afflicted with this most terrible disease for some time, but it was entirely unknown to the community at large. He was seen on Saturday evening at 5 o’clock, apparently as well as ever. He evidently died with scarcely a struggle.
