Zelma D. Kress, 96, of Quasqueton, Iowa died Monday evening, November 3, 2014 at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence, Iowa.

Zelma was born on August 6, 1918 in Guthrie County, Iowa the daughter of Ed S. and Ulva A. (Downing) Miller. She moved with her family to the Rowley, Iowa area where she graduated from the Rowley High School in 1935. On February 13, 1937 she was married to Verle E. Kress in Quasqueton, IA. The family lived in Independence, Rowley, and Wyoming Iowa prior to returning to Quasqueton in 1954. Zelma was employed with the Mental Health Institute and Corn Blossom’s in Independence and with Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids prior to retiring to take care of her family.

She enjoyed quilting, bowling, fishing and music but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are three children; Donita (Richard) Scott, and Donald (Echo) Kress both of Quasqueton, IA, Delores (Joe) McCann, Independence, IA, ten grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, thirty five great-great grandchildren, and a sister Mable Gosse, Independence, IA.

Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Verle Kress in 1996, a son Duane Kress,a sister; Crystal Kress, and , and three brothers; Lauren, Beryl and Marvin Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Union Church, Quasqueton, IA, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating.

Burial will be in the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Quasqueton, IA, and from 9 AM till services Thursday at the church.
