Richard L. Sherrets, 83, of Independence, Iowa and formerly of Winthrop, Iowa died Saturday, May 26, 2102, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Dick was born on July 14, 1928, near Quasqueton, Iowa the son of Raymond I. and Esther L. (Arnold) Sherrets. He attended the Independence Community Schools, in Independence, Iowa and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 thru 1949. On June 3, 1949 he married Betty V. Downing in Independence, Iowa. Richard farmed and was employed as a plant operator with the Independence Light and Power for 13 years prior to his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Betty, three children; Rick (Karen) Sherrets, Independence, IA., Kathy Boies, Hazleton, IA., and Cindy (Mark) Bagby, Winthrop, IA., Thirteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, a great great grandson, and a brother; Donald Sherrets, Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jack Sherrets, two sisters; Eve Beirman and Phyllis Morris, and four brothers; Kenneth, William, Leonard, and John Sherrets, and a son-in-law David Boies Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Independence, IA., with Dr. David Larson officiating.

Burial will be in the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday and from 8 to 10 AM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 11 A.M. till services Wednesday at Church. A Military Memorial Service will be held at 7 P.M. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
