Dorothy B. Swarts, 92, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Lexington Place Care Center in Independence, Iowa

Dorothy was born on December 23, 1922 in Mitchell, South Dakota the daughter of Floyd D. and Ardath F. (Lowman) Wallis. She graduated from the Mitchell High School, and was married to Jack D. Swarts on November 26, 1943 in the Otterville Presbyterian Church, Independence, IA. The family farmed in the Independence area and Dorothy was employed with Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA, and was the bookkeeper for Dr. James Sloan for several years then became the secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Independence from 1975 till her retirement in 1983.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband; Jack of Independence, IA, four children; Doug (Cynthia) Swarts, Galesburg, IL, Brian (Frances) Swarts, and Wayne (Charlene) Swarts, Independence, IA, and Jane Swarts, Marion, IA. Eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a sister Zelma Sims, of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Donald and Robert Wallis.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Thursday and from 9 AM till services Friday at the funeral home.
