Mary Imojean Schutte, 88, formerly of rural Jesup, IA, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Western Home’s Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls, IA. She was born November 29, 1924, in Lamont, IA, the daughter of Jason Clarence Whitney and Lora (Reed) Whitney. She attended school there and graduated from Lamont High School with the class of 1942. She advanced her education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA, where she received her teaching certificate and then taught school in the rural schools near Lamont and Aurora. On September 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Gail Alvin Schutte in Lamont. They spent their married years farming south of Jesup at Shady Grove. Mary Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, wintering in Texas and time spent with family. Her husband Gail preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.

Mrs. Schutte is survived by three daughters, Vicki (Joel) Decker of Prior Lake, MN, Debra Tokheim of River Falls, WI, Nancy (Steve) Ober of Urbandale, IA; two sons, Craig Schutte of Jesup, IA, and Kent (Lynn) Schutte of Cambridge, MN, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Gail, she is preceded in death by one sister, Doris Knickerbocker; one brother, Donald Whitney; a daughter in law, Kathy J. Schutte and a son in law, Bruce Tokheim.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, June 28, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Lynn C. Gardner officiating. Casket Bearers will be Josh Decker, Jeremy Decker, Jason Decker, Chris Schutte, Tyson Tokheim, Lance Tokheim, and Tony Schutte.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the White Funeral Home, 1315 Main Street, Jesup, IA 50648, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to charity.
