Mary K. Paisley, 97 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at ABCM Rehab Independence – West in Independence. She was born on November 4, 1915, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Henry “Harry” Otto and Kathryn Mary (Botzet) Krakow. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High with the Class of 1933. On January 18, 1941, she and Glenn Nelson Paisley were married in Dubuque. They farmed together in Dubuque County and then, Buchanan County until 1970 when they moved into Independence. Mr. Paisley preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Paisley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence and the Independence Garden Club. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years and she was a Gray Lady volunteer at the M.H.I. in Independence. Mrs. Paisley enjoyed quilting and playing Bingo and various card games. She also liked reading newspapers and working crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Paisley is survived by 1 daughter, Jean (Clarence) Rouse of Independence, Iowa, 3 sons, Robert (Lois) Thorp of Cape Coral, Florida, Melvin (Cherie) Paisley of The Villages, Florida, and Paul (Nancy) Paisley of Independence, Iowa, 9 grandchildren, Kevin Thorp, Craig Thorp, Dan Rouse, Rob Rouse, Sherry Coventry, Glenn Paisley, Elicia Wilbon, Renee Ruiz, and Cassie Weber, and 22 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Kenneth “Sonny” Krakow.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Casket Bearers will be Kevin Thorp, Craig Thorp, Dan Rouse, Rob Rouse, Nic Thorp, Justin Rouse, and Matt Ruiz. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.

White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 23rd, at the funeral home.
