James Michael Gilson, 81, of Lamont, Iowa, entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, IA.

James Michael Gilson was born December 16, 1933 near Winthrop, Iowa the son of Harold and Grace Andrews Gilson. He attended local schools and graduated from Lamont High School with the class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He took basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.; artillery training at Camp Chaffe, AK; and final training at Fort Bragg, NC. He was then shipped to Breakhaven, Germany and on to Chinon, France, where he spent the remaining 13 months before his discharge.

Jim was united in marriage to Linda Vaske on May 28, 1983 in Lamont, Iowa.

He worked factory jobs and road construction. He then worked for the city of Lamont for 16 years. He then was hired in August, 1963 as a sub mail carrier at the Lamont Post Office. In 1982 he became the regular route carrier and worked until retiring in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Lamont; three daughters and two sons: Jodi (Greg) Meyer of Lamont; Kathy (Dave Harris) Adams of Fayette; Julie (Harold) Becker of Ozark, Alabama; Jeff Adams of New Sharon, IA; and Keith Adams of Seattle . WA; six grandchildren: Martin Aguilar, Jonathan Lona, Jessie Bennington, Tyler (Shelby) Holthaus, Trent Holthaus, and Dylan McFarlane; three great grandchildren: Chloe Bennington, Boone Holthaus, and Gatlin Holthaus; two sisters: Carolyn McGuire-Stella of Oelwein and Marian Ohl of Oelwein, Numerous nieces and nephews. As per his wishes, Jim has been cremated and celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Condolences and memorials may be directed to his wife Linda at 335 Monroe street in Lamont, Iowa 50650.

The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation services of Lamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
