William E. Brown, 89, died Friday, June 20th, 2014 at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, IA.

William was born August 24, 1924 in Jesup, Iowa, the son of Corydon & Grace (Clue) Brown. He attended Jesup schools, and enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 22, 1943. He served proudly in the Army Air Corp. until 1945. On August 23, 1947 William married Phyllis M. Meffert, and they made their home in Independence, IA. Bill worked for many years as a mechanic for the Independence Light & Power Company maintaining the generators.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Penelope Brown, brothers Lyle, Roy, Duane Brown, and sisters Betty Stupp, Clara Fowler and Pearl Winning.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis; son, Eric (Linda) Brown, Pleasantville, IA; grandchildren, Adam (Reagan) Brown, Reid Brown and Kathryn Brown; great grandchildren, Rease and Alison Brown, sisters Ada Hunt of Huston TX, Grace Gibbs of Dundee, IA, Dorothy Crowe of Huston TX and Patty Brown of Marshalltown, IA

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, June 23th, 2014 at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
