Mary V. Conrad, 78, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014 at her home in Independence, IA.

Mary was born on April 19, 1935 in Masonville, Iowa the daughter of James and Genevieve (Moran) Penney. She was a 1952 graduate of the Lamont High School, Lamont, Iowa and was united into marriage to Richard L. Conrad on August 16, 1952. The couple made their home in Independence, Iowa where Mary provided Day Care Services in her home, was employed at White’s Café, and the Mental Health Institute, prior to becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and becoming employed with the West Village Care Center in Independence.

Mary loved spending time with her family, baking, reading, and listening to Country Western Music and shows.

She is survived by twelve children; Richard (Mary) Conrad, Independence, IA, Randy (Charla) Conrad, Hazelton, IA, Karen Sue (Bob) Coonrad, Independence, IA, Lynn (Andy) Lyle, Cedar Rapids, IA, Mark and Mike Conrad, Independence, IA, Deb LaMasters, Waterloo, IA, Tracy (Lori) Conrad, Independence, IA, Terry (Renae) Conrad, Independence, IA, Paul (Jean) Conrad, Corydon, IA, Penney Hackert, Independence, IA, Jim Conrad, Independence, IA, twenty three grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and a sister; Peg Thomas, Waterloo, IA.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard in 2007, a grandson; Christopher Conrad, a sister; Maxine Downs, and a brother James Penney, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, with Rev. Kali Hayslett, Chaplin of Unity Point Hospice officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery, Independence, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Thursday and from 8 AM till services Friday at the funeral home.
