Alvin D. Peters, 84, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday evening, December 21, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, Iowa.

Alvin was born on September 16, 1927, in Saint Le Boy, Nebraska the son of Herman C. and Sarah (Stone) Peters. He received his education in the Rural Schools near Leboy, NE. On June 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to Goldie E. Vincik in Grand Island, NE. The couple farmed for a few years until moving to the Independence, Iowa area in 1949 where he farmed and worked with Elm Park Plumbing and Heating. He received his High School Diploma from the Independence High School in 1970 and in 1979 Alvin opened the Peters Plumbing and Heating Company working until his retirement in 1998.

He is survived by his wife; Goldie Peters, Independence, IA., four daughters; Peggy (Barrett) Everhart, Leesburg, VA., Judy (Randy) Miller, Independence, IA., Connie (Bill) Scharff Flora, Spartanburg, SC., and Linda (Raul) Aguirre, Austin, TX., nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and a sister; Phyllis Kurz, St. Paul, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Sarah Peters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 27th 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, Iowa with Rev. Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, Iowa, and from 9 A.M. till services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial may be left at the discretion of the family.
