Donald Peter Schares, 73 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA, following a short illness.
He was born January 21, 1938, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Leonard Martin Schares and Gertrude Catherine (Schmitz) Schares. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School, Independence, IA with the class of 1956. On May 10, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joyce Marie Hellman at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, IA. Don was employed at John Deere in Waterloo for 36 years, first on the assembly line and later as an inspector. He was a member of UAW Local 838. In retirement he stayed busy working for Hawkeye Tile and later Prinsco Tile in Jesup. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.
Mr. Schares is survived by his wife, Joyce Schares of Jesup, IA; two sons, David (Renee) Schares of LaPorte City, IA, Dan Schares of Cedar Rapids, IA; two daughters, Cindy Peterson of Waterloo, IA, Roxanne (Mitch) Alm of Draper, UT; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; four sisters, Lenora (James J.) Youngblut of Jesup, IA, Ruth Ann (Les) Keilholtz of Waterloo, IA, Phyllis (Robert) Schlorff of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Shirley (Albert) Hutchinson of Dale City, VA. His parents and one brother, Lloyd Schares, preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2011, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 3:00 p.m. Parish Rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church and School in Jesup. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of the arrangements
