Mary Jane Staebell 85, formerly of Jesup, IA, died peacefully Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 5:25 a.m. at Rosewood Estates in Waterloo surrounded by her loving family following a long illness.
She was born on February 4, 1926 in Waucoma, Iowa, the eldest of 4 daughters of Harold and Gertrude (Schissel) Marron. She married Michael Theodore Staebell, April 26, 1947 in Waucoma.
Mary Jane and Mike farmed near Jesup for 25 years, raising their 7 sons and 1 daughter, Tom Staebell (Jan) of Sidney, British Columbia, Canada; Steve Staebell (Becky) of Oquawka, Illinois; Gerry Staebell (Vicki) of Jesup; Mick Staebell of Waterloo; Dan Staebell (Vicky) of Onalaska, WI; Andy Staebell (Wendy) of Mendota Heights, Minnesota; Christopher-Chip Staebell of Sterling, Illinois and Maureen Ellingson (Todd) of Jackson, Wyoming.
In addition to her husband and children, 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Mary Jane is survived by her three sisters, Elaine (Vernon) Perry of Waucoma, Iowa; JoEllen Murray of Charles City, and Colleen (LeRoy) Kuennen of Bunker, Missouri.
Prior to a debilitating stroke in 2001, Mary Jane enjoyed knitting, card playing, and baking cookies for her family. She loved her God, her Church and her Family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher as Celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 3:00 p.m. Catholic Daughters Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service on Tuesday. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. The family has requested memorials be given to St. Athanasius School and to Hospice Compassus.
