David Alan Shaw, 39 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his office in Fredericksburg, Iowa.

He was born on December 7, 1971, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary Ellen (Nail) Shaw, Jr. He graduated from high school in Independence in 1990, and then attended the School of Business at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He graduated with a B.A. in finance in 1995. On September 6, 2003, he and the former Devin Kay Beatty were married at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa.

Mr. Shaw was a financial planner with offices in Independence, Sumner, and Fredericksburg. He was a member of the Independence Lions Club, the Independence Rotary Club, and the River Ridge Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing and boating, but most of all he enjoyed time with his children.

David is survived by his wife, Devin; 3 daughters, Delaney Shaw, Carley Shaw, and Presley Shaw, and 1 son, Dawson Shaw, all at home. He is also survived by his father, Frank Shaw of Independence, Iowa; 2 sisters, Penny (Rory) Payne of Alta, Iowa, and Cindy (Kevin) Freeman of Orange Beach, Alabama; and 1 brother, Frank M. Shaw of Las Vegas, Nevada. David is also survived by his parents-in-law, Karen and Robert J. Beatty of Quasqueton, Iowa; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim (Jean) Beatty and Robert L. (Kim) Beatty, both of Independence, Iowa; and 5 sisters-in-law, Diane (John Kortenkamp) Beatty and Kim (Harold) Hocken, both Independence, and Kodie (Tom) Connolly, Angie (Jeremy) James, and Denice Zieser, all of Quasqueton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Scott Meador and Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Leo Schubich, organist, and Dr. David A. Larson, vocal soloist. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Friends may call for visitation after 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.

White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
