Jesup – Harold Dean Curtis, 76 years old, a resident at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, IA, and formerly of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Good Neighbor Home.
He was born April 12, 1932, in Manchester, IA, the son of Jesse Evan Curtis and Mary Gladys (Rose) Curtis. He attended school at Masonville, IA, and then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On February 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marlene Fae McKinney at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2005. Harold worked for the Kirk Gross Company in Waterloo, IA as a carpenter in commercial construction before retirement.
Mr. Curtis is survived by two sons, Calvin (Wilma) Curtis of Des Moines, IA, Mark (Donna) Curtis of Prairie City, IA, three daughters, Sue (Daniel) Gallagher of Dyersville, IA, Debbie (Ron) Kester of Jesup, IA, Lynn (Brian) Dixon of Urbandale, IA, also 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one brother, John (Judy) Curtis of Hartselle, Alabama, and one sister Rosemary Shelton of Independence, IA. In addition to his wife, his parents, one brother, Glenn Curtis, one sister, Mildred Johnson and one grandson, Ryan Curtis preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. - Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Jill A. Mack officiating. Casket Bearers will be Tyler Curtis, Colin Gallagher, Michael Curtis, Dan Gallagher, Ron Kester, Clay Harrold and Ben Dixon. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA. A memorial fund has been established.
