JESUP — Jerry Lamphier, 61, of Jesup, formerly of Dewar, died Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.
He was born Aug. 1, 1947, in Edgewood, son of Theodore and Marie Haught Lamphier. He married Paula Snyder Nielson on Oct. 15, 1989, at the Waterloo Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He grew up near Elkader, in Evansdale and Waterloo. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1965. Mr. Lamphier retired in 2006 from the secondary roads department of Black Hawk County after 30 years of employment.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Tanner at home; a daughter, Crystal Janssen of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Mary of Wichita; and two brothers, Lyman and Paul (Rose), both of Oelwein.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Wayne in infancy, and Larry in Vietnam; and a sister, Janice Freeman, on Oct. 4, 2008.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the Waterloo Seventh-day Adventist Church, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Jerry’s unforgettable smile and contagious laughter will be deeply missed by all of us.
