Santee, Calif. - John Scott Gates of Santee, Calif., age 62, passed away suddenly from natural causes on Friday, Nov. 7. He was born on Dec 31, 1945 in Independence the eldest son of Jack and Frances Gates.

He is survived by his dedicated wife of 42 years, Kathleen, Santee, Calif.; his three children Eric Gates, Fallbrook, Calif.; Kaija Cauldren, Highland, Calif.; and Phoebe Knight, Escondido, Calif.; five grandchildren, Kyle, Kacey, Ethan, Kelsey, and Jack, and his brother Stephen, Rochester, N.Y.

His devotion and passion for racing was an inspiration to his family and many others.

This was witnessed by many in his last moments proudly assisting his son on the track as they prepared for an exhibition run on the Barona Drag Strip.

His sense of humor, friendship and love will be missed by us all.
