Carroll A. Bantz, 80, of Independence, died on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center following a sudden illness.

He was born on April 2, 1927, in Independence, the son of Maurice Daniel and Pearl Isabella (Anderson) Bantz. He graduated from the Independence High School with the Class of 1945. He then served in the U.S. Navy. On June 3, 1947, he and the former Frances Marie Mumford were married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. They farmed in the Rowley/Brandon area until retiring. Mr. Bantz was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. He was also active with the Buchanan County Soil Conservation and F.H.A. Board. Any spare time was best spent enjoying a baseball game.

Mr. Bantz is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances, one son, Arlen (Wanda) Bantz of Rowley, one daughter, Diane (Bob) Kress of Cody, Wyo., seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Lester (Gloria) Bantz and Dallas (Joanne) Bantz, both of Fairbank and two sisters, Doris Foley of Prescott, Ariz., and Bonnie Bantz of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Shirley Roepke, and one brother, Keith Bantz.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.

White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
