A Celebration of Life visitation was held Monday, July 17, for James Allen Axness, 68, Sumner, who died Saturday, July 15, at Strawberry point Lutheran Center, Strawberry Point.

The visitation was held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm., at S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, Sumner, with burial at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel. S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, Sumner, was in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born Oct. 9, 1948, to Vernon and Patricia (Holmes) Axness in San Francisco, Calif.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force June 21, 1966, and was honorably discharged from active duty Dec. 9, 1969, with a rank of Sergeant, from Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, Calif.

Jim attended the University of California Berkley and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He was a member of the Catholic church and worked as a salesman for many years. Jim loved music, astronomy and animals. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Heather (William) Denoyer, Erica (Richard) Jackson, and Gretchen (Terry) McCarl; a son, Christopher J. (Dawn) Axness and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eric Axness.
