MRS. MADDEN BURIED THURSDAY
Esteemed Woman Lived at Halfa 28 Years
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Halfa Presbyterian church for Mrs. J. W. Madden who had passed away at her home there Tuesday. Rev. A. T. Bailey, pastor of the church was in charge. A short prayer service was held at the home prior to that at the church. The large attendance at the services were indicative of the high esteem which Mrs. Madden was held in the community which had been her home for so many years.

Burial was made in the Armstrong cemetery by the side of her oldest daughter.

Bertha Elizabeth Buhrow was born on September 24, 1867 in Germany. As a girl of 8 years, she came to this country with her parents, living at Sumner. She lived there until her marriage on October 7, 1886 at Tripoli, to Joseph W. Madden. The couple went to Burt, where they lived for 2 years, moving from there to Whittemore, where they lived for 12 years. Since that time, for 31 years the family home has been in Halfa and vicinity-11 years on the farm and 19 years in the home in which she passed away Sept. 4, 1934.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband J. W. Madden of Halfa and ten children, George M. Madden of Halfa, Mrs. Vera Fisher of Des Moines, Joseph M. Madden of Fenton, Mrs. Zatha Myklebust near Armstrong, Mrs. Oreta Adams of Des Moines, Mrs. Bertha Ninedorf of Waterloo, Mrs. Elsie Heine of Waverly, Mrs. Avis Jenson of Algona, Leonard Madden of Halfa, and Mrs. Irene Heine of Waverly. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Sarah Bannister, preceded her mother in death on May 10, 1933. Mrs. Madden is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition also is a wide circle of relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Madden was confirmed in the German Evangelical Lutheran church as a young girl, and has since December 1905, been a very active member of the the Halfa Presbyterian church.
