WAVERLY — Paul Herman Fred Harms, 89, of Waverly, died Sunday, July 29, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, of natural causes.

He was born May 18, 1918, on the home farm in Readlyn, son of Edward and Wilhelmina Hagenow Harms. On Sept. 2, 1946, he married Leola Ingersoll at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Mr. Harms worked for Whitney-Juhl Implement, then Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then worked for many years as a milk hauler in Waverly, retiring in the early 1980s.

Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Judy (Frank) Spinler of Cedar Rapids; two sons, David (Cindy) of Mitchell, S.D., and Edward (Stephanie) of Swanzey, N.H.; a special son, Peter (Geri) Witkamp of Hilversum, Netherlands; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild; two sisters, his twin, Pauline Brase of Plainfield and Emelda (Ray) Dewey of Waverly; and two brothers, Melvin (Ruby) and Martin, both of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Leo; and a sister, Rosina Harms.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2208. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p .m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, where there will be a 7 p.m. Masonic service followed by an Eastern Star service.
