Breakenridge, Bremer Die in Action

PFC Lester A. Bremer
Private Bremer, whose wife resides at 430 Stratford Avenue, was killed in action February 28, while with the infantry in Germany.

Born March 31, 1919 (incorrect...should be 1918) on a farm near Frederika, Ia., son of Frank and Alvina Bahlmann Bremer, he graduated from high school and came to Waterloo four years ago. Prior to entering the service in March 1944, he was employed by the Rath Packing Co.

He received his basic training at Camp Roberts Cal., and while here on furlough married Kathleen Dunbar of Waterloo, on October 14, 1944. He was sent overseas immediately afterwards.

Surviving besides his wife are his father at Tripoli, one daughter by a previous marriage, Sally Jane, 4 years old living with her mother, Mrs. William Clapp, 83 Webster Street, two brothers, Paul of Tripoli, Ia., and Arnold of New Hampton, Ia.; four sisters, Mrs. Hilda Holmes, Clarion, Ia., Adala Testorff, New Hampton, Ia., Mrs. Helena Bergmann, Ionia, Ia., and Mrs. Olinda Hagedorn, Frederika, Ia.

Bremer Rites in Tripoli Friday

Funeral and reburial services for Pfc Lester August Bremer, formerly of Waterloo who was killed in action Feb. 28, 1945 in Germany were scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday in Tripoli, Ia. at St. Peter's Evangelical church.

A former employee of Rath Packing Co., Private Bremer served in the army infantry. He was born Mar. 31, 1918 on a farm near Frederika, Ia., son of Frank and Alvina Bremer. He came to Waterloo four years before entering service in March, 1944.

He received basic training at Camp Roberts, Cal., and while there on furlough married Kathleen Dunbar of Waterloo Oct. 14, 1944 (this is not correct...they were married at the First Evangelical Church in Waterloo, IA according to the Waterloo Daily Courier 10/15/1944 Page 12 issue announcing their marriage).

He was sent overseas immediately afterward. He died before the birth of their daughter, Susan Kay, now 3.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen who since has been remarried to Glenn Bemus, 418 Lafayette Street; their daughter, Susan Kay, another daughter, Sally Jane, by a former marriage; his father, two brothers, Paul, Tripoli, and Arnold, New Hampton, Ia.; four sisters, Mrs. Hilda Holmes, Clarion, Ia., Mrs. Adala Testorff, New Hampton, Mrs. Helena Bergmann, Ionia, Ia., and Mrs. Olinda Hagedorn, Frederika.
