Obituary of Mrs. Emma Claus
Emma Claus, nee Bockhaus, was born on February 9, 1863 in the neighborhood of Chicago, IL. Later on she with her parents moved to Beecher, IL, where she attended school, was confirmed, and grew into womanhood.

In 1880 she was united in holy matrimony with Henry Claus. This union was blessed with thirteen children, six daughters however, having proceeded their mothor in death.

In the year 1899 she with her family moved to Iowa and settled for a short time in Tripoli, then moved to a farm in the neighborhood of Sumner. Ten years later she with her husband and family moved to North Dakota and resided there until 1924.

Ten years ago she was stricken with paralysis which left her practically helpless. Last year she with her husband came to the home of her daughter where she was well taken cure of. In the beginning of December it was noticed that she was rapidly failing. She became weaker and weaker and was forced to lie down December 11, and was thereafter bedridden. On Saturday, December 19, she became unconscious and remained in this condition until she peacefully fell asleep on December 21 in the presence of her loved ones.

Her husband, six sons and one daughter survive, namely: Fred and Herman, in Oregon, Henry In Minnesota, Arthur, Wilmer, and Erwin in North Dakota, and Mrs. August Steege of this place. She is furthermore survived by one sister and two brothers and 22 grandchildren.

She attained the age of 62 years, 10 months and-12 days.

The funeral services were held Thursday, December 24th, at the home of her daughter, at 12:00, at the Spring Fountain St. John's Lutheran
church at 12:30. Rev. H. C. Reikowsky officiated. Burial was made In the Spring Fountain cemetery.
