___
“Last rites for Respected Sumner Resident Held last Thursday with Interment at Zion Cemetery.

“John Alexander Hammetter, oldest son of George H. Hammetter, was born on February 12, 1870, near Sumner, and departed this life on March 16, 1925, at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 4 days.

“He grew to manhood in this vicinity and was well known to be a man of his work and was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.

He was married to Miss Anna Eclirch on October 20, 1898 by Rev. Pflaum.

“They celebrated their silver wedding anniversary a couple of years ago with a large number of relatives and friends around them.

“On September 10, 1921, he suffered a stroke of apoplexy which left him an invalid, but he bore his affliction with patience and was always cheerful. He later was attacked by dropsy which caused his death. All that loving hands could do was done for him but to no avail.

“His mother, 2 sisters, Mrs. Will Gersonde and Mrs. Sarah Arzberger, and one brother, Walter preceded him to death. He leaves to mourn his departure, a loving wife, an aged father and step-mother who proved a real mother, one sister, Mrs. I. W. Day of Waterloo, 3 brothers, Herman of Hazel, S. Dak., and George and Arthur of Sumner, and many other relatives and friends.

“About 12 years ago, during the labours of Rev. E. Schroeder, the deceased was converted and united with the Evangelical Church of which he continued a member until his death.

“Funeral services were held last Thursday and interment was made at the Zion Evangelical Cemetery.” .
