One of the most progressive and active of the younger generation of farmers in Maxfield township is Louis C. Warneke, whose birth occurred here October 27, 1880. He is a son of Christoph and Engel (Mathias) Warneke, the former a native of Germany, born June 22, 1860. The father came to America when he was eighteen years of age and settled in New York city, when after one year he moved to the vicinity of Chicago, Illinois. For a year and a half thereafter he followed the blacksmith's trade in that locality and then, in 1874, moved to Bremer county, Iowa, taking up his home on a farm in Maxfield township, where he has since resided, dividing his time between working at his trade and managing his agricultural interests. He was one of the first settlers in this locality and has long been numbered among its representative and able citizens. He and his wife became the parents of seven children: Louis C., of this review; Mrs. Lydia Poock, who makes her home in Maxfield townshiop; Mrs. Engel Griese, who resides near Denver, Iowa; Henry, operating the home farm in Maxfield township; Mrs. Amanda Koelling, of Maxfield township; Metha, residing with her parents in Readlyn; and Otto, who was born July 15, 1896, and is now attending college at Oelwein.

Louis C. Warneke grew to manhood in this township, acquiring his education in the district and German schools. Following the completion of his studies he turned his attention to farming and in this occupation has since continued. He owns one hundred and sixty acres of choice land in Maxfield township and upon this property raises grain and feed stock, his interests becoming every year more extensive and important.

In 1904, Mr. Warneke was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Bruns, who was born in Maxfield township, June 19, 1883, a daughter of Carl and Anna (Botterman) Bruns, of whom further mention is made elsewhere in this work. Mr. and Mrs. Warneke have become the parents of four children, as follows; Irene, born January 10, 1905; Walter, born July 8, 1907; Amanda, born August 17, 1908; and Louis, born August 12, 1911. Although still a young man, Mr. Warneke is numbered among the leaading representatives of agricultural interests in Maxfield township and his successful record makies him a native son of whom Bremer county has every reason to be proud.
