Leonard Miller, a progressive and successful farmer of Bremer county, was born in Illinois in 1866 and is a son of George and Margaret Miller. The parents were natives of Germany and came to America in 1856. Their marriage occurred in Illinois and the father afterward bought land in that state, operating and improving his property until his death, which occurred in Bureau county. Six children were born to their union, two of whom have passed away. The others are: William, of Bremer county; Leonard, of this review; Edward, a resident of Bureau county, Illinois; and Hattie, the wife of William Schaller, of Mendota, Illinois.

Leonard Miller acquired his education in the public schools of his native state and when he was twenty-three years of age moved to Iowa, settling in Bremer county, where he bought eighty-eight acres of land. To this he has added from time to time, owning today two hundred and eighteen acres on section 4, Washington township. He cultivates this property in a progressive and practical manner and has made it one of the most valuable and productive farms in this part of the county. He is a stockholder in the State Bank of Waverly and a man of recognized business ability.

At Guttenberg, Iowa, in 1889, Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Friedlein, who was born in Clayton county, Iowa, a daughter of George and Margaret Friedlein, both of whom have passed away. They were the parents of ten children, six of whom are still living, the wife of the subject of this review, being the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have become the parents of eight children: William H., who was born October 20, 1889, and now resides in Denver, this state; Gilbert, who was born in 1891; Ella, born in 1893; Amanda, born in 1894; Martha, 1895; Esther, 1898, Florence, who died in infancy; and Rachel, born June 9, 1902.

Mr. Miller gives a general allegiance to the republican party but at times votes independently. He is a progressive citizen, who is considerate of the general progress as well as of his individual success, and his worth is widely acknowledged.
