D.L. Bowers, a successful dairy farmer of Frederika township owning and operating one hundred and sixty acres of land on section 6, was born in this township, September 9, 1868, a son of G.N. Bowers, a native of Michigan. The father came to Bremer county about that time and settled on a farm in Frederika township. A few years later he moved into Frederika and there engaged in the grocery business until his death. He was twice married, his first wife being a Miss Shirley, who passed away in Illinois, leaving two children: Julia, who married E. Bemler; and Mary, the wife of S.D. Bostwick, of Seattle, Washington. G.N. Bowers' second union was with a Miss Baxter, who passed away in Frederika township. To this marriage were born four children: Mrs. Merriott, of Chickasaw county, Iowa; Mrs. W.H. Ager, of Frederika; Mrs. Brodie, of Waverly; and D.L., of this review.

D.L. Bowers was reared upon his father's farm in Frederika township and when he was fifteen years of age went to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he became identified with the milling business serving an apprenticeship with Mr. Bemler and remaining until 1895. In that year he purchased land in Chickasaw county and there engaged in farming until 1905, when he bought one hundred acres on section 6, Frederika township, the old home of his father-in-law, to which he later added. He engages in dairy farming and has met with excellent success, being a practical agriculturist and a discriminating business man. In addition to this farm he owns also forty acres in Chickasaw county.

Mr. Bowers married Miss Anna Ager and they have become the parents of three children: Olive, Cyril and Grace. The parents are members of the Methodist Espicopal church and Mr. Bowers gives his political allegiance to the democratic party. He is a progressive and active farmer, and his industry and enterprise have not only enabled him to attain prosperity but have won him a high place in the respect and confidence of his neighbors.
