Walter L. Alcock, a prosperous barber of Frederika, was born in Douglas township, this county, May 10, 1876, a son of John William Alcock, who was born at Hazel Green, Wisconsin, January 29, 1849. The father was reared upon a farm in that state and came with his parents to Bremer county in 1869. He turned his attention to farming here and in time became an extensive land owner, accumulating a competency upon which he finally retired from active life. He moved into Frederika and there his death occurred on the 14th of May, 1909. He married Miss Priscilla Kinney, who was born in Keokuk, Iowa, January 26, 1849, a daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth (Secord) Kinney, natives of Canada, both of whom have passed away. Mr. and Mrs. John William Alcock became the parents of four children: Walter L., of this review; Clarence O., who was born April 4, 1878, and who now resides at Daisy, North Dakota; Dorothea Edna, who was born March 13, 1881; and William Earl, who was born December 19, 1885, and who now resides at Bengaugh, Canada.

Walter L. Alcock was reared upon his father's farm and acquired his education in the district schools and in the public schools of Frederika. He now makes his home in that city, where he is engaged as a barber, enjoying a large patronage.

Mr. Alcock married Miss Isora Taylor, who was born in Frederika, a daughter of Larry and Ida Taylor, now residents of Gruver, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Alcock have become the parents of four children: Velva, who was born November 12, 1901; Dorma Violet, born March 15, 1903; Victor L., born March 5, 1905; and Verla, born July 17, 1906. Mr. Alcock is regarded as one of the progressive business men and leading citizens of Frederika, being held in high esteem for his ability, energy and integrity of character.
