During the entire period of his active life James H. McDonald has been connected with agricultural interests of Bremer county and is now the owner of four hundred and fifteen acres of valuable land on section 11, Douglas township. Upon a portion of this property he was born November 29, 1859, a son of Robert G. McDonald, of whom a record appears elsewhere in this work.

James H. C.Donald acquired his education in the district schools of this township and immediately after laying aside his books turned his attention to farming, an occupation which he has followed since that time. To his original tract of eighty acres, given him by his father, he has steadily added until he owns today four hundred and fifteen acres. This he has provided with substantial buildings and modern machinery and by following the most progressive and practical methods has surrounded himself with a gratifying degree of success.

Mr. McDonald married Miss Ella M. Ladd, who was born in Bremer county, a daughter of William and Mary (Douglas) Ladd, who came to this part of Iowa in 1876, settling in Polk township. The father has passed away and is survived by his wife. In their family were two children: a son, who is steward at the County Farm; and Mrs. McDonald, wife of the subject of this review. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald have two children, Evelyn Lolita and Lucile Adele.

Mr. McDonald gives his political allegiance to the republican party and is interested in public affairs. He is one of the most progressive and active of Bremer county's native sons and is held in high regard and esteem in his native township as a successful farmer and useful citizen.
