In a history of the medical profession of Bremer county prominent mention should be made of Dr. Herman Carl Jungblut, who since 1894 has been engaged in the active practice of his profession in Tripoli, gaining for himself the high place which he now occupies among the foremost physicians and surgeons in the county. He was born in West Bend, Wisconsin, April 8, 1862, and is a son of Joachim and Dorothea (Windels) Jungblut, natives of Germany. The father was a wagon maker by trade, following this occupation until his death, which occurred at West Bend. His wife passed away in Tripoli.

Dr. Junglut spent his childhood in Wisconsin and acquired his preliminary education in the West Bend public schools. He afterward attended a business college in Chicago and then spent two years in the medical department of the Iowa State University. He completed his medical course in Bellevue Medical college of New York city, receiving the degree of M.D. from that institution in 1891. He located for practice at Davenport, Iowa, and was afterward at Sumner. In 1894 he came to Tripoli, where he has since engaged in professional work with remarkable success. He has never considered his professional education complete, supplementing his medical course by post-graduate work in Vienna, Breslau, Berlin and London, where he became familiar with the most advanced methods known to modern medical research. He is an able surgeon, giving special attention to this branch of his profession, and he has performed many difficult operations most successfully. He is a member of the Bremer County and the Iowa State Medical Societies, the American Medical Association, the Austin Flint and Cedar Valley Medical Societies and the Clinical Congress of Surgeons of North America, and he thus keeps in touch with the trend of advancement along professional lines. The Doctor also belongs to the American Association for the Advancement of Science and to the National Association for the Study of Prevention of Tuberculosis.

Dr. Jungblut married Miss Eva Sweet, a native of Bremer county, and both are well known in social circles of Tripoli. Dr. Junglut's personal characteristics have gained him the warm regard and friendship of many, while along professional lines he has gained that prominence which comes only in recognition of merit and ability.
