J.B. Franklin, one of the most progressive and active of Bremer county's native sons, owns and operates a fine farm of one hundred and seventy-one acres on section 14, Fremont township. He was born upon a portion of this property May 18, 1861, and is a son of John Franklin and a grandson of John and Jane Franklin, records of whom appear elsewhere in this work.

J.B. Franklin passed his boyhood upon the farm, acquiring his education in the district schools. When his father moved to Tripoli in 1880 he took charge of the homestead, to which he has since added, owning today one hundred and seventy-one acres. A portion of the house now upon the property was erected by the father but Mr. Franklin of this review has made all of the other improvements. He engages in general farming and his practical and progressive methods have been rewarded by a gratifying measure of success.

Mr. Franklin married Miss Ida Davies, who was born in Bremer county, a daughter of Charles Davies, deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin have two children: Myrtle, the wife of Irvin Palmer, of Charles City; and Carrie, who married Joe Snelling, who is assisting the subject of this review. Both daughters taught for three years in the district schools of Fremont township. Mr. Franklin gives his political allegiance to the republican party and for the past thirty years has been secretary of the Fremont township board of school directors. He is a prosperous farmer and progressive citizen and a native son of whom Bremer county has every reason to be proud.
