J.H. Noon, who for the past twelve years has been serving as mayor of Sumner and who is connected with business interests of the city as the proprietor of a general store, is a man to whom success has come as the result of earnest labor, close application and intelligently directed energy. He was born in Albany, New York, September 11, 1854, and afterward moved with his parents to Rock county, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. He acquired his education in the public schools of that locality and afterward attended school for one year at Milton Junction. He came to Sumner in 1888 and established himself in the general merchandise business, with which he has since been connected. Twelve years ago he erected a two-story brick building, in which his store is located. He does a large business and controls a growing patronage, accorded him in recognition of his honorable business methods and his reasonable prices.

On the 27th of August, 1888, Mr. Noon was united in marriage to Miss Eva M. Blodgett, a native of Illinois, and they have become the parents of a daughter, Grace. Mr. Noon is a member of Lookout Lodge, No. 395, A.F.& A.M. and belongs also to the Masonic chapter at New Hampton. He is connected with Sumner Lodge, No. 338, I.O.O.F., and has held all of the chairs in that organization. He is influential in local democratic politics and has held various positions of trust and responsibility, being recognized as an able and reliable official. He has been justice of the peace for twenty years and for the past twelve years has been mayor of Sumner, giving to the city a businesslike and practical administration. He is recognized as a forceful and enterprising man and public opinion is united in according him a place among the representative citizens of Sumner.
