Among the most able and enterprising of the younger farmers of Sumner township and among Bremer county's most energetic and successful native sons is numbered John Bock, who owns and operates eighty acres of improved land. This constitutes the homestead. He was born January 27, 1882, a son of Henry and Mary (Konicke) Bock, natives of Germany. After their marriage the parents emigrated to America and lived for many years in various parts of Bremer county. The father engaged in farming on rented land until 1892 and then purchased a farm on sections 28 and 33, Sumner township, now occupied by the subject of this review. There were some improvements upon it but the buildings have all been remodeled and added to. The father passed away upon this farm in January, 1905, and his wife survives him, making her home in Sumner. Nine children were born to their union, the eldest of whom died in infancy. The others are: Mary, the wife of Herman Niedert, of Fayette county; Henry, of the same locality; Sophia, who married A.W. Bremer, of Sumner; Fred, of Sumner township; William, a farmer in Dayton township; John, of this review; Bertha, the wife of Louis Huennemiller; and Herman, who married Mary Craemer and lives in Readlyn.

John Bock was reared in Bremer county and acquired his education in the district schools. He has never left the homestead and after his father's death bought the property which under his able management has become one of the attractive farms of this locality. It comprises eighty acres in Sumner township, and is well improved, evidencing everywhere the supervision of the practical and able agriculturist.

Mr. Bock married Miss Tillie Koch, who was born in Bremer county, a daughter of Henry and Sophia (Tegtmeier) Koch, the former of whom has passed awy. Mr. and Mrs. Bock became the parents of three children: Emma; Mabel; and Bernita, who died in infancy. Mr. Bock is a member of the Lutheran church and is a democrat in the political beliefs. Although still a young man he has already attained a fair measure of success and he enjoys the esteem and confidence of an extensive circle of friends.
