Dr. Bert Clay Dunkelberg, who has been a practicing physician of Bremer county for the past twenty-four years, has maintained his offices in Sumner since 1908 and has there built up an extensive and gratifying practice. His birth occurred in the state of New York on the 24th of December, 1863, his parents being Solomon and Caroline (Kuney)Dunkelberg, who were natives of Pennsylvania and New York, respectively. The father, an agriculturist by occupation, passed away at Waterloo ten years ago, while the mother's demise occurred in Bremer county. R.A. and E.E. Dunkelberg, the two brothers of our subject, are practicing physicians of Waterloo, Iowa.

Bert C. Dunkelberg spent the first fourteen years of his life in the Empire state and then came to Iowa with his parents, the family home being established in Waterloo, where he attended high school. Having determined upon a professional career, he entered the College of Medicine of the State University of Iowa and was graduated from that institution in 1889. He then located for practice at Schaller in Sac county, Iowa, and there remained for eight years, on the expiration of which period he came to Bremer county and opened an office at Tripoli. Five years ago he joined Dr. Richard H. Stafford at Sumner and this place has since remained the scene of his professional labors. Five years ago he likewise pursued post-graduate work in Rush Medical College of Chicago and has further kept in touch with the progress of the profession through his membership in the Bremer County Medical Society, the Austin Flint Medical Society, the Cedar Valley Medical Society and the American Medical Association. His efforts as a physician and surgeon have been attended with such excellent results that his practice has continually grown with the passing years.

In 1891 Dr. Dunkelberg was united in marriage to Miss Alice E. Perrott, a native of England, by whom he has two children, namely: Elmer C., who is a junior in the Upper Iowa University at Fayette; and Helen A., a sophomore in the same institution.

Since age conferred upon him the right of franchise Dr. Dunkelberg has supported the men and measures of the democracy, while his religious faith is that of the Methodist Episcopal church. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons, the Modern Brotherhood, the Modern Woodmen of America and the Yeomen. He is most conscientious in the performance of his professional duties and in every relation of life is actuated by high and honorable principles. His genuine worth and his devotion to all that is right, just and elevating, make him a man whom to know is to respect and honor.
