Bernard H. Linow has won prosperity as a member of the firm of Linow Brothers & Keiser of Waverly, carrying a complete line of shelf and heavy hardware and also conducting a heating, tinsmithing and plumbing business. His birth occurred in Maxfield township, this county, on the 8th of November, 1867, his parents being Christian and Mary (Kobbs) Linow, who were born, reared and married in Germany. They emigrated to the United States at a very early day, locating first in Chicago. Christian Linow, who had learned the millwright's trade in his native country, worked as a carpenter in Chicago until the time of his removal to southern Iowa. At the end of a year spent in that portion of the state he came to Maxfield township, Bremer county, and here purchased land. Subsequently, however, he disposed of the property and took up his abode in Warren township, where he spent the remainder of his life, passing away in 1885. His wife was called to her final rest in May, 1909. Their children were five in numbers as follows: Louise, the deceased wife of William Hermann, who now makes his home in Missouri; Frederick, an agriculturist of Pope county, Minnesota; Christian, who is associated in business with his brother Bernard; Bertha, who is the wife of Charles P. Neubauer, a clothing merchant of Waverly; and Bernard H., twin brother of Bertha.

In the acquirement of an education Bernard H. Linow attended the district schools of Warren township and when not busy with his text-books assisted his father in the work of the home farm. When twenty-three years of age he took charge of the property, continuing its operation for about five years. On the expiration of that period he came to Waverly and entered the employ of Robert O'Day, an implement dealer, with whom he remained for three years. Subsequently he was employed by the firm of Curtis & Son for ten years and at the end of that time formed a partnership with his brother Christian and a Mr. Baehmler. About a year later Mr. Baehmler disposed of his interest to Mr. Keiser, and the firm has since conducted business under the name of Linow Brothers & Keiser. They carry a full line of shelf and heavy hardware and are also engaged in the heating, tinsmithing and plumbing business. Their patronage is extensive and they have gained an enviable reputation as reliable, enterprising and up-to-date merchants. Bernard H. Linow devotes his attention exclusively to the conduct of the business and in the careful management of his interests has won a well merited measure of success.

On the 8th of May, 1899, Mr. Linow was united in marriage to Miss Emma Kueker, who was born near Chicago, Illinois, her parents being Louis and Sophie (Wente) Kueker. They were likewise natives of Illinois, born near Chicago. Louis Kueker, an agriculturist by occupation, came to Iowa from his native state and located near the county farm in Warren township, Bremer county. He now makes his home near Denver, this county. His wife is deceased. Mrs. Linow was the first born in their family of six children.

Mr. Linow casts his ballot in support of the men and measures of the republican party but has never sought nor desired the honors and emoluments of office. His religious faith is indicated by his membership in the German Lutheran church. He has become one of the substantial citizens of Bremer county, where he has spent his entire life and where he is highly regarded and respected, enjoying the confidence and good-will of all who know him in a business or social way.
