Funeral services for Charles H. Knight were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone, Thursday, June 28, 1956 at 9 a.m. with the Rev. J.J. Ryan officiating at the requiem mass, which was sung by the high school choir.
Pallbearers were Jack Berry, Don Kruse, Tom Berry, Leonard Johnson, Leonard Burrell, and Lee Caffrey. Burial was at the Sacred Heart cemetary.
Charles Henry Knight was born at Whiteside Co., Ill., August 10, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Knight. He died Tuesday, June 26, 1956 at the Boone county hospital following a heart attack suffered two weeks previously, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 16 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Bernadine Cribbens, August 16, 1911, and to this union five children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Knight have always made Boone their home. Mr. Knight was employed in several cigar stores and was also in the U.S. Employment service for a number of years. He was a lover of sports and was the official scorer at baseball games throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Thomas and Frank; and a sister, Sarah.
Mr. Knight is survived by his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Catherine Houser of Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Raymond (Margaret) Smith of Encino, Calif., Mrs. Leo (Rose) Heun of Lawndale, Calif., and Mrs. Cleo (Dorothy) Bowman of Boone; a son, Captain Don E. Knight of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; several nephews and a niece and other relatives and many freinds.
Relatives from out of town attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Heun, Donny and Mary Kay of Lawndale, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith, Jimmy, Kathy and Tommy of Encino, Calif., Leonard Knight of Davenport, IA.; Mr. and Mrs. William Knight and family of Clinton, IA.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knight and daughter, Jean of Des Moines, IA.; Miss Sarah Shufely and Hubert Shufelt of Des Moines, IA.; and Larry Driscoll of Fort Dodge, IA.
