"Mrs. Elizabeth APPENZELLER, wife of Andrew APPENZELLER, died at their home five miles southeast of Perry on Tuesday, November 22. The immediate cause of death was cancer of the stomach. The deceased was one of the most highly respected member of that community. She was a member of the German Lutheran church, and the pastor of that church in Des Moines preached the funeral, both in English and German. The deceased was 38 years of age and her husband and five children survive her. The funeral was held Thanksgiving day and the interment was at the Perry cemetery." --The Chief Reporter, Nov. 24, 1898
