MANY ATTEND SERVICES FOR W.H. BRIGGS

Funeral Was Held on Saturday Afternoon
Mr. Briggs Resided Here for Fifty Years
Was Long in the Employ of the North-Western Railroad---Interment Made in Linwood Park Cemetery, east

Friends, neighbors and fellow workers of the late W.H. Briggs, veteran brakeman on the North-Western railroad, who was killed while engaged in performing his duties on the road, gathered at his late residence, no. 1527 Greene Street, and at the Central Church of Christ on Saturday afternoon for the funeral services.
The services were in charge of the Rev. E.L. Frost, pastor of the church, who was assisted by the Rev. L.E. Viets, pastor of the Baptist church. The former took as his text the 14th chapter of St. John and his discourse lightened the sorrow of the bereaved ones with comforting thoughts and a tribute to the deceased.
The music was furnished by Mrs. F.A. Mershon and Miss Gay Hart, accompanied by M.H. Veale, who sang "My Father Cares," "In The Garden" and "He Knows It All." The pallbearers were all members of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen with which the deceased was affiliated as follows: Messrs. Charles Smith, George McNeil, F.W. Hoffman, William McCartney, John Shelley, M.P. McCracken and O.P. Cramblett.

Interment was made in Linwood Park cemetery east.

His Life Sketch
William Henry Briggs was the son of Silas and Obedience Briggs. He was born Jan 23, 1865, in Lake County, Indiana. Fifty years ago, when he was 7 years old, he came to Boone with his parents. They traveled overland in wagon. He had lived here ever since. He married Mrs. Emmily Stribling of Omaha, Neb. June 23, 1898.
Mr. Briggs died May 10, 1922, having met with a fatal accident while in discharge of his duty on the North-Western road. He is survived by his wife and three children, two grandchildren , 3 sisters and two brothers. The children are Earl of Long Beach, Calif; Mrs. Ava Bolitho, Boone and Mrs. Helen Duntz of Ames and one Step-child, Mrs. Arthur Wester, Boone. One son , Lloyd, died in 1912. The grandchildren are Chester Briggs of Boone and Donald Briggs, Ames. The sisters of the deceased are Mrs. Mary Brady of Boone, Mrs. Jennie Bushore, Boone and Mrs. Lillian Kirk, Kansas City, Mo. The brothers are George W. and Alonzo M. both of Boone.
Mr Briggs united with the Christian church in 1892. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen for 28 years. He entered the service of the C. & N. W. Ry. Co. in 1889.
